The Clean World’s high-solid organic waste recycling center employs anaerobic digestion technology developed at UC Davis.
At the facility, food waste, agricultural residue and other organic waste will be converted into renewable energy, fertilizer and soil enhancements.
The Clean World system will convert 7.5 tons of food waste per day from Campbell Soup and other regional food producers along with .5 tons of unrecyclable corrugated material from ARP into natural gas.
About 1,300kWh of renewable electricity per day will be produced using the generated natural gas to supply about 37% of ARP’s electricity needs.
UC Davis, CalRecycle and the California Energy Commission have supported the research and feasibility studies through private investment funding the facility’s construction and installation.
The City of Sacramento assisted the project’s implementation through its project-approval and permitting role.
