The regulatory approval enables Detroit Edison to begin its own commercial solar projects at various locations throughout its Southeastern Michigan service area.

Nova Consultants of Novi bagged the $18m one-year contract from Detroit Edison. According to the contract, Nova needs to analyze the feasibility, design, installation and start-up of up to 3MW of PV solar systems to be installed on Detroit Edison owned, as well as customer-owned facilities.

Nova Consultants, which offers full-service engineering, environmental and energy services, will work with Michigan firms to complete the installation of the solar systems.

Trevor Lauer, vice president of retail marketing at DTE Energy, said: “This contract will provide a number of new energy opportunities for our larger customers, as well as economic development benefits for the region as a whole. We’re interested in installing solar photovoltaic systems at businesses, educational institutions and non-profit organizations.”
