wind power

Located in the unorganized territory (UT) of Lac-Pikauba in the Regional County Municipalities (RCM) of Charlevoix, the project has been developed in two phase with the first phase of 150MW commissioned in November 2014.

The wind project features Senvion MM92 and MM82 Cold Climate Version (CCV) type turbines.

Senvion CEO Andreas Nauen said: "As the largest onshore wind project in our history, Rivière-du-Moulin represents more than a third of our installed capacity in Quebec. This very large wind farm represents a major milestone for Senvion across the globe."

Hydro-Quebec Distribution will purchase the power generated from project under a 20-year power purchase agreement.

Expected to meet power requirement of around 70,700 Canadian homes annually, the Rivière-du-Moulin wind farm will be operated and maintained by EDF Energies Nouvelles’ North American subsidiary EDF Renewable Services.

Earlier this month, EDF EN Canada agreed to divest 42.5% interest in the project to DIM WIND, which is owned by a consortium involving Desjardins Group, Manulife Financial and iA Financial Group.

EDF EN Canada is expected to have 1,599MW of installed wind and solar capacity in Canada by 2017.

Separately, EDF announced its plan to invest up to $2.7bn annually in an effort nearly double its renewable energy capacity by 2030.
