A consortium including Acciona Agua, GEL Engenharia and FB Participaciones will carry out the work under the 26-year concession.

Work under the contract includes the construction and commissioning of two wastewater treatment stations and16 pumping stations for the system, as well as the construction of a wastewater pipe network for the city.

The plant will have an initial capacity of 400 liters per second, with plans to further increase the capacity to 600 liters per second over the concession period.

The project will also have 67.8km of sewers and 6.1km of collector pipes.

The company will operate and maintain the system throughout the concession period.

In July 2014, Acciona Agua, along with Serveng and GEL, received a contract from the Secretary of State for the Environment in Rio de Janeiro to build the sanitation system in São Gonçalo, the second city in the State after Rio de Janeiro.

The €117m project includes the environmental recovery of the Alcântara and Mutondo river basins to serve around 250,000 people.

Acciona Agua previously carried out the redevelopment and improvement of the wastewater treatment plant at Arrudas.

In September this year, Acueducto Metropolitano de Bucaramanga selected Acciona to build the Los Angelinos Drinking Water Treatment Plant (DWTP) in Bucaramanga, Colombia.

Acciona Agua, along with the Colombian firm Construvicol, will construct and commission the DWTP.
