The project also received renewal permit approval from the agency for northern exploration license (MEL 12029).
The approval follows completion of EPA’s independent audit of the Tawana Resources’ existing operational activities that are related to exploration activities being conducted over both licenses, which constitute the company’s Mofe Creek project.
Tawana Resources executive chairman and CEO Wayne Richards said: "Securing the permit renewal and approval of the annual audit report is necessary for the advancement of operations at Mofe Creek and is critical to our commitment to the project’s development.
"This latest approval from the EPA represents another important step forward in the overall environmental permitting process."
Tawana said that the exploration program complies with the requirements of the EPA permit issuance.
Located within one of Liberia’s iron ore mining districts, the Mofe Creek Project is 10km along strike from the previously mined Bomi Hills mine and is characterized by coarse grained, itabirite.
In October 2015, EPA of Liberia approved Tawana Resources for a scoping study and terms of reference report for an environmental and social-impact assessment (ESIA) at the Mofe Creek project.
Wayne Richards earlier said: "We recognise that securing the permits necessary for the establishment of operations at Mofe Creek is critical to our commitment to rapidly advance the project towards development."
