The 5 million tons per annum (Mtpa) LNG receiving terminal, Jafrabad LNG port will comprise one jetty-moored floating, storage and regasification unit (FSRU).

The project is expected to be the country’s first FSRU-based LNG receiving terminal.

A second FSRU is also under consideration by the partners in order to increase the capacity of the terminal to 10 Mtpa.

Swan sponsor Nikhil Merchant said: "With EXMAR, we bring over 10 years of experience in the development, construction, ownership and operation of FSRU’s to India’s first LNG FSRU Terminal.

"EXMAR’s professionalism and know-how will no doubt give additional assurance to the terminal users and our financial partners."

As an equity partner, Exmar will leverage its experience in floating LNG solutions for the new terminal project, which already secured necessary permits.

The partners are currently in talks with contractors for the engineering, production and construction (EPC) of the breakwater, jetties, topsides and onshore receiving facilities.

Exmar CEO Nicolas Saverys said: "With an increasing demand for clean energy, EXMAR is committed to deploy more FSRU’s in India, as a fast-track and competitive solution."

Final investment decision is scheduled in the first half of 2016.

Heads of agreements have also been signed for an initial 4.5 Mtpa regasification capacity, for a 20-year period.
