Eneco completed a 240-hour test of the first set of installed turbines at the wind farm, located 23km off the coast between Zandvoort and Noordwijk cities.
The completion of the test means the facility is now supplying electricity to the Dutch grid for the first time.
Eneco, which is developing the project together with Mitsubishi, said turbine installation is progressing well with 31 of the 43 MHI Vestas V112 units installed using Van Oord’s Aeolus vessel.
Upon completion, the wind farm will generate enough green energy for about 150,000 households.
Electricity from the wind farm it transmitted through a 25km long cable that comes ashore at Noordwijk and goes for an additional 8km underground to TenneT’s substation in Sassenheim.
The wind farm will occupy an area of 25km2 off the Dutch coast at water depth ranging between 18m to 24m.
The project was originally planned to be developed with 51 Vestas V90 turbines having a total capacity of 153MW, but the proposal was later amended to a capacity of 129MW with 43 units.
LS Cable & System is the cable provider for the offshore wind farm. Joulz, a subsidiary of Eneco, is the design and construction contractor for the onshore cable.
