Under the terms of the lifetime enterprise agreement, Amec Foster will be responsible for all interfaces of work particularly on EDF Energy’s reactor systems, reactor technology and plant performance to the end of the operating life of its advanced gas-cooled reactors fleet in the country. Terms of the deal were undisclosed.

Amec Foster Wheeler Clean Energy business president Clive White said: "This agreement will allow both parties to plan on a long term, strategic basis and invest in resources, tools and facilities to secure safe, reliable operational performance, to deliver EDF Energy’s objectives for their nuclear stations."

The contract scope includes a range of technical support including modelling and simulation order to ensure compliance with design codes, standards and regulations, future proofing key platforms and systems.

The company will also be responsible for providing support for rigs, facilities, specialist chemistry, corrosion and materials as well as for developing solutions to solve key future and emergent challenges.

Additionally, the deal includes managing ageing and obsolescence eliminating constraints associated with high integrity Control and Instrumentation systems to enable plant life extension and improve power generation.

Amec will also support plant performance by integrating tacit knowledge and targeted tools to improve equipment reliability.

White added: "It further reinforces Amec Foster Wheeler’s long-term knowledge and expertise in the field of reactor support and will allow us to help ensure that EDF Energy can generate, clean, reliable and safe electricity for years to come."

EDF Energy nuclear operations director Brian Cowell said: "The contract will enable us continue to deliver the secure, reliable, low carbon electricity the UK needs now and into the future."
