The facility, which is anticipated to start operations in the second quarter of this year, is situated in San Bernardino County near Helendale.
The acquisition brings Dominion’s solar portfolio in California to 241MW. The Alamo facility, which is expected to qualify for the federal Investment Tax Credit, has a 20-year power purchase agreement and an interconnection deal.
Commenting on the acquisition, Dominion Generation chief executive officer David Christian said: "Dominion is delighted to continue developing solar energy.
"Solar power provides important fuel diversity in our fleet’s electric generation mix."
Dominion’s total contracted solar generating portfolio of 384MW in operation or under development includes plants in California, Connecticut, Georgia, Indiana, Tennessee and Utah.
The company is planning to develop 400MW of utility solar generation in Virginia by 2020.
Dominion’s portfolio includes about 24,600MW of generation, 12,200 miles of natural gas transmission, gathering and storage pipeline, and 6,455 miles of electric transmission lines.
E.ON currently operates more than 2.7GW of renewable capacity. The company plans to expand the share of renewable energy in its North American power generation portfolio.
