Equipped with Canadian Solar’s MaxPower CS6X-P modules, the 10MW facility is valued at around C$60m ($52m).

The Liskeard 1 solar power facility supplies power to the Ontario Power Authority under a 20-year power purchase agreement.

Canadian Solar chairman and CEO Dr Shawn Qu said: "This transaction is a testament to Canadian Solar’s expertise in developing, constructing, and energising utility-scale solar power plants, and it demonstrates our leadership position in solar project development on a global scale."

Liskeard is the eighth Ontario solar facility bought by TransCanada from Canadian Solar and is part of a larger purchase agreement signed between the two companies in 2011.

The transaction raises the investment made by TransCanada in Ontario solar program to more than $450m.

TransCanada president and CEO Russ Girling said: "This acquisition continues to show our commitment to maintaining a diverse portfolio of generating capacity in Ontario which includes 958 MW of gas fired generation and our combined interest of about 40 per cent in the 6,200 MW Bruce nuclear facility."
