The two contracts worth a combined value of €390m will run for 30 years.
Veolia holds a 60% stake in the facilities under a joint venture (JV) with TIS.
The company will construct a facility in Tangshan to treat wastewater, and to recycle and cool water in order to meet the needs of TIS’ two new projects, a coking plant and a gas liquefaction plant.
Both the TIS facilities will share the plant, which will allow reusing 60% of the water.
The plants are expected to start operations in the second half of 2014.
Both the projects are situated in an economic corridor connecting the two major regions of northeast and north China.
The projects are part of TIS’ plan to ensure continuous steel production, for which the supply of coke is important.
Veolia chairman and chief executive officer Antoine Frérot said: "Veolia’s mission and capabilities in the downstream mining industry go beyond the provision of standard water supply to our customers. We can indeed provide them with a competitive advantage, by optimizing in particular their water management processes.
"We thereby help this prestigious industrial client to better grasp the future of its industry: cleaner and more productive mines and industrial processes, with lower environmental impact and greater economic performance."
Veolia has been offering technical assistance to TIS’ steel production site in Chengde, Hebei, since 2012.
