Solar Power (SOPOSA) and Compania Hondurena de Energia Solar (COHESSA) are developing the solar farms in southern region of Honduras.

The two 73.2MW projects, which are expected to be completed by March 2015, will generate enough electricity for about 45,000 homes in Honduras.

Canadian Solar chairman and chief executive officer Shawn Qu said: "We are pleased to be selected to supply our PV modules to SOPOSA and COHESSA, both world leading developers and EPC providers.

"I am confident that Canadian Solar’s global experience, proven track record, and consistent product performance will continue to make us a partner of choice in supplying our modules to key solar installations worldwide."

Honduras’ under construction solar PV capacity currently stands at 74MW with a leading position across Central America.

The Larach Group founded SOPOSA and COHESSA in 2012 in San Pedro Sula to create a solution for the high energy demand that Honduras is presently experiencing.

Its corporate portfolio has recently expanded to 360MW of renewable projects including hydro, geothermal, and solar.
