Under the contract, Pöyry will be responsible for the preparation of basic design with focus on risk analysis for the dam and related structures. The work is expected to help in making final investment decision for the project.

Pöyry Energy Business Group president Richard Pinnock said: "Delivering clean, renewable energy projects in this region further strengthens Pöyry's position as one of the world's leading hydropower engineering consultancies.”

Currently at the design stage, the Beyhan II project will be an earth fill clay core dam on the Murat River near the village of Beyhan in Palu district, Elazig Province, Turkey.

The hydro project is expected to generate 710 GWh of clean electricity annually.

Kalehan Murat CEO Keles said: "Kalehan Energy Group is happy to extend their existing fruitful co-operation with Pöyry in the Beyhan 2 Project.”

The Beyhan II project is one of the four hydroelectric power plants, which will have a combined installed capacity of 1,855MW, planned to be developed on the Murat River by Kalehan Enerji Üretim ve Ticaret (Kalehan Energy Generation).

Kalehan Energy Generation is a joint venture between Özaltin Construction and Cengiz Construction Kalehan Enerji.

The other three plants include the Beyhan I project, which is currently operational, as well as the lower and upper Kalekoy hydropower plants.
