Located near Ballarat in Victoria, Australia, the 131MW Mt Mercer wind farm features 64 turbines.

The wind farm, which has been generating electricity since November 2013, brings the company’s total operating portfolio in Australia to 201MW.

The 60MW Mill Creek facility, which features 26 wind turbines, is situated in Wellington on the state-owned company’s home soil.

Mill Creek will increase the amount of energy Meridian generates using wind from 10% to 12% of the company’s total annual production in New Zealand.

The facility and the neighbouring West Wind wind farm will deliver enough electricity for almost all of the homes in Wellington and most of Lower Hutt.

Meridian Energy said Mt Mercer is the third wind farm project that was developed by it in Australia and complements its existing Mt Millar wind farm in South Australia.

Meridian Energy acting chief executive Neal Barclay said it’s exciting for the company to have the two wind farms fully operational and connected to the grid.

"A lot of hard work has gone into building both wind farms and it’s a proud day for Meridian and the teams who have worked on these projects."
