The 154MW Jaybird facility is owned by the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) and is located on the south fork of the American river near Placerville, California.
ge-hydro will design, manufacture and install new generator stators to replace the existing stators, refurbish the existing generator rotor poles, and test and commission the equipment. GE Hydro’s Twintone stator winding insulation system and the complete refurbishment of the rotor windings will significantly increase the power rating of the two generators from 77 to 85 MVA.
The two generators will be taken off-line for the installation work during the fourth quarter of 2004 and the project will be completed by mid-January 2005.
0Another GE Power Systems group participating in the Jaybird project, Bently Nevada, will supply a total unit condition assessment system to measure vibration, temperature, air gap, position and speed. It will include Bently Nevada’s System 1 Plant Asset Management software which ties all monitored parameters, including power and current, into a single software package. The System 1 platform will allow the future inclusion of other mechanical assets in the plant into a single asset management platform.
