Slovakia’s Minister of Econ-omy, Lubomir Harach, has ind-icated that ABB has submitted a bid for its participation in operating the Gabcikovo hydroelectric power plant, according to the CTK news agency’s Business News.
The station, located on the Danube, is expected to be privatised in the near future and ABB’s representatives have reportedly held talks with senior Slovak-ian politicians to discuss the matter. The company is said to have offered to restructure the debts of Vodohospodarska vystavba, which has borrowed approximately US$500M to construct the plant but is currently unable to repay the sum. The restructuring of the debts would only take place if ABB could lease the plant.
