Innogy Hydro plans to build an 800 kW hydropower scheme in Scotland to supply power via the Scottish and Southern grid lines. The contract for construction of the scheme, at the western end of Glen Garry on the Garry Gualach Burn near Invergarry, has been awarded to R J McLeods. The site is being developed in partnership with Forest Enterprise, a local trust. The project is being designed to blend into the surrounding landscape and includes a buried pipeline and low intake weir. The transmission line will also be partly buried. Construction of the project has started and the plant is expected to enter service in July 2002. The station’s control panel is being supplied by Kestral Controls Ltd, design and software is by Caledonian Energy and the Gilkes Francis turbine will be built in Cumbria. Alconza of Spain will supply the generator.
