Florida Light and Power was forced to take its 697 MWe Turkey Point 3 nuclear power unit out of service recently after four control rods fell into the core of the reactor. The failure was caused by a loose connection in the electrical system that operates the control rods, according to the utility. The plant was returned into service next day, and resumed operating at 100 per cent capacity.
