As per the agreed terms, the company will supply 50KW Terra 52 and Terra 53 model chargers for around 200 electric vehicle fast-charging stations across Netherlands, by bringing an EV fast charger within 50 kilometers of all of the country’s 16.7 million inhabitants.

The first of the fast chargers is scheduled to be delivered in September 2013, while the construction of the Fastned stations, which will have solar canopies, will be completed by 2015.

Commenting on the deal, ABB Discrete Automation and Motion executive committee member Ulrich Spiesshofer said that Fastned has chosen ABB for its proven expertise in deploying and managing EV charging networks across the nation.

Fastned co-founder Bart Lubbers said, "This countrywide network of locations will lay the basis for the commercially viable development of e-mobility.

"I foresee a race towards faster charging and larger batteries throughout the car industry."

Earlier in December 2011, the government had announced a public-tender process for the installation of charging facilities at the 245 service stations along the Dutch highways.
