Located in the Witkop and Soutpan Solar Parks in the Limpopo province the plants will have installed capacities of 33MW and 31MW respectively.
Scope of each of the turnkey solutions includes design, engineering, installation and commissioning besides the supply of inverters, protection equipment, switchgear, dry-type transformers, controllers and a SCADA system.
ABB will also construct a substation and provide connectivity to the high-voltage power grid for power transmission.
ABB Power Systems division head Brice Koch said that their expertise in supplying PV power plants will enable the efficient delivery of solutions to integrate renewable energies in the country.
The projects will be among the first utility-scale PV power plants to be built in phase 1 of the South African government’s long-term renewable energy program and are expected to generate 130GWh electricity per annum.
Expected to be completed by 2013 and will help displace 130,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per annum.
