The Al Omran substation located in the eastern part of Saudi Arabia is a part of the Qurayyah Independent Power Project and the under construction New Muhayil substation is connected to the Shuqaiq and Namera North transmission network.

Under the contract, ABB will provide 420kV GIS equipment which will be an integral part of the substations.

ABB Power Products division head Bernhard Jucker said, "The new substations where this GIS equipment will be installed, will enhance power capacity and help meet growing electricity demand to support industrial development in the country."

The substations are expected to be energized in June 2014.

ABB has announced constructing a $40m new manufacturing plant for high-voltage GIS and transformer service workshop in Saudi Arabia.

Al Toukhi is building the substations for Saudi Electricity Company, the country’s national power transmission and distribution operator.
