The $25m contract is an extension of an existing deal, under which ABB is supplying 65 shunt reactors.

ISA will use the shunt reactors for the development of high-voltage transmission lines for the Colombian, Chilean and Peruvian electric grids.

As part of the overall supply, the company will supply 55, 500kV shunt reactors in Colombia, 28 units in Peru, and 36 in Chile.

ABB Power Products division transformers business head Markus Heimbach said: "ABB’s advanced shunt reactor technology will help even out voltage and load variations, boosting power transmission, enhancing grid reliability and supporting economic development.

"We have a strong presence in South America, and continue to support vital power infrastructure improvements across the region."

The company is planning to deliver the reactors between 2015 and 2017.

ISA owns more than 41,000km of high-voltage transmission lines in Colombia, Peru, Bolivia and Brazil.
