The order was placed by Office National de l’Electricite au Maroc (ONE), Morocco’s national power utility, and the project is scheduled to be completed by 2012.

The company is responsible for the design, supply and commissioning of the substation capable of integrating electricity into a 400kV power transmission highway.

The switchyard will include IEC 61850 compliant automation, control and protection systems, which enable the development of intelligent power networks.

ABB substations business head Oleg Aleinikov said that the substation will support the development of Morroco’s 400kV power infrastructure and enhance transmission capacity to help meet growing demand for power.

According to ABB, ONE will increase the capacity of its Jorf Lasfar power plant to 2,056MW, by adding two new 350MW units.
