This is the first order the power and automation technology group has received under a partnership agreement signed with Kazakh copper producer Kazakhmys.

The firm will supply switchyard, switch room and other electrical equipment, as well as the control system for the Bozshakol mine in its first order.

With the delivery of these products, Kazakhmys could enhance reliability of its electrical infrastructure ensuring process efficiency and productivity.

ABB’s latest contract follows two previous orders totalling $90m for gearless mill drive packages, and covers the complete electrification, instrumentation and automation for both sites.

Commenting on the orders, ABB Process Automation division head Veli-Matti Reinikkala said, "As single source supplier, ABB enables Kazakhmys to benefit from synergies across these sites during and after project delivery."

The company said the equipment would be installed and commissioned at Bozshakol in September 2013, and at Aktogay in 2014.
