Under the scope of the contract, ABB will supply both mechanical and electrical equipment such as pulley, hoist shaft, bearing and bearing houses, hydraulic brake system, skips, dumping curves, measuring and ore loading flasks for each of the four hoists and modernization of the existing control and drive systems.
The revamped hoists are scheduled to be in operation starting in 2014, with the fourth hoist scheduled for 2017.
The new hoist is expected to carry ore from a depth of 1,365m, thereby increasing the mine production by 17% from 30 to 35 million metric tons.
The new production hoist will increase productivity and bring ore from a new mining level to the surface.
The new haulage level will also help to extend the mine’s operations at the site through 2030.
