ABB will design, manufacture, test, supply and provide technical direction on-site for an expansion of seven gas insulated switchgear (GIS) circuit breaker positions. Equipment supply scope includes a gas insulated bus (GIB) for new line exit connections, and a provision of interfaces for existing GIS substations, including interfaces to non-ABB GIS substations.

The ABB high-voltage products that will be used in these Hydro One substations include dead-tank circuit breakers and GIS units. These components are designed to meet the demands of 550kV system application and 80kA fault current interrupting capability.

Bernhard Jucker, head of ABB power products division and member of the executive committee, said: ABB’s global technology leadership position in high-voltage switchgear products and related services helps utilities like Hydro One to meet their customers’ increasing needs for highly reliable, efficient electric power. These products are available to meet a variety of demanding technical and environmental requirements and have been successfully applied in all regions of the world.
