Under the contract, Abengoa will be responsible for the engineering, design and construction of the $50m Mamacocha hydroelectric plant.

Expected to generate power in a sustainable way, preventing 43,000 tons of CO2 emissions per annum, the hydro power project will create more than 200 direct jobs and 600 indirect jobs during its construction phase.

Located between 1,300 and 1,700 meters above sea level, the facility will utilize water from the Mamacocha Lagoon and discharge it into the river of the same name, taking advantage of the 343m height difference and a design flow of 6.8m3 per second.

The plant will generate electricity which is enough to meet the requirement of 10,000 households.

Till date, Abengoa has developed more than 300 water projects exceeding 400MW of installed renewable power as well as numerous electrical infrastructures and water and cogeneration projects in Peru.
