Abengoa Solar will employ its own parabolic trough technology in both plants. The technology was developed in recent years and has been proven highly successful in the plants that make up the Solucar Platform in Sanlucar la Mayor, Seville.

Pedro Robles, chief executive officer of Abengoa Solar Spain, expressed his satisfaction with the start-up of this new project: “Three years ago we began the process involved in building these plants. After making the investment required for purchasing the necessary land and equipment, we can today affirm that Écija will enjoy two state-of-the-art plants for producing clean energy that will make use of one of the community’s greatest natural resources, the sun.”

Including the two plants, Abengoa Solar now has 250 solar CSP megawatts under construction in Spain, in addition to 31 MW that are already in production.
