The platform, known as Upstream Solution for Independents, uses the SAP HANA Cloud Platform to provide an organized, single view of production operations, financial accounting and reporting.

The solution will also help enhance business decision-making by providing insights into costs and revenues, which makes revenue accounting more manageable for firms operating in the unconventional shale oil and gas market.

Accenture energy industry group global managing director Andrew Smart said: "This highly scalable and fit-for-purpose solution will use standardised and integrated business processes and technologies to enable both growth and cost discipline by independent upstream operators.

"This industry solution, combined with a methodology for rapid, predictable and reliable deployment, is designed to replace aging legacy systems that are struggling to keep up with the pace of growth and to have our clients up and running in less than nine months."

SAP America senior vice-president and managing director for south region John Tully said: "We anticipate that the combined experience of SAP and Accenture, as well as the upgraded roadmap for SAP production revenue and accounting, will bring independents outstanding technology and business processes that can be implemented as-is or adapted to each company’s needs."
