Zuma Energia has awarded Acciona the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for Mexico’s largest wind farm.
The 424 MW Reynosa wind project will be built in Tamaulipas state at a cost of $600 million and is one of two major renewable energy projects being built in Mexico by Zuma.
Acciona will build the foundations for 123 wind generators, each with a capacity of 3.45-3.6 MW, on 120 m towers, as well as roads and accesses. It will also install the medium voltage (34.5 kV) network for the entire wind farm, the 400 kV high voltage network with three substations (two step-up transformers and one for interconnection) and 40 km of double-circuit lines.
Financing for the project has been arranged through development and commercial banks, Acciona said. The project is part of the capacity awarded in the second long-term electricity auction held in September 2016 by the Mexican government’s Secretariat of Energy (SENER) and its National Energy Control Centre (CENACE).
In that auction, Zuma Energía was awarded a total of 725 MW of renewable energy capacity.
