Indian firm Adani has announced that it is ready to start work on the construction of the Rugby Run solar power plant in Australia after receiving consent from the regional government.
Phase one of the project will comprise a 65 MW solar plant using the latest mono-PERC technology and single-axis tracking system installed on a 600 ha property near Moranbah, Queensland.
Further stages will then be implemented to take the project to 170 MW, Adani said. It has already started work on cultural heritage surveys and engineering design for the project, and is in the process of securing orders for equipment.
The project is a key part of Adani’s plans to develop 1500 MW of solar power capacity in Australia in the next five years. It is also developing a large-scale coal mining operation in Queensland as well as rail and port infrastructure.
