The board of directors of ADB has approved the assistance from its concessional Asian Development Fund for the Tajikistan Regional Power Transmission Project.

The work will include the construction of two new 220kV transmission lines totaling 140km, as well as the rehabilitation of substations, and the project is expected to be completed by February 2015.

ADB’s grant makes up 87% of the total project cost of $141m, with the Government of Tajikistan and state-owned utility Barki Tojik contributing the remaining $19m.

Barki Tojik is the executing agency for the line and substation investments, while the Ministry of Energy and Industry of Tajikistan will oversee the reform process.
