The unit 3 at the Welsh facility can generate approximately 528MW of power. The company did not mention about the recommencement of the unit but stated that it planned to conduct maintenance from June 2, 2009 to June 12, 2009.

The company’s Welsh plant is situated in Cason in Titus County, around 130 miles east of Dallas. The plant can generate approximately 1,584MW of electricity. One MW of power generated serves approximately 500 homes in Texas.

The facility comprises of three units, with a capacity of 528MW each. The three units of the plant started operations in 1977, 1980 and 1982. The power plant is owned and operated by the company’s subsidiary, Southwest Electric Power.

AEP operates approximately 38,000MW of generating capacity, markets energy commodities, and transmits and distributes electricity to around five million customers in 11 states.
