The Pirkey power facility has a power generation capacity of 675MW. The power plant was closed due to an unplanned outage to repair a hydraulic oil leak on a turbine control valve.

The Pirkey power facility is situated approximately 140 miles east of Dallas, in Harrison County. The power plant commenced its operations in 1985. One MW of power generated from the plant can serve around 500 homes in Texas.

Southwestern Electric Power, a regulated subsidiary of the company, operates the power plant for its owners. The owners of the plant include Northeast Texas Electric with 12% interest, Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority with 2% interest and Southwestern Electric Power with 86% interest in the power plant.

AEP engages in the ownership and operation of approximately 38,000MW of power generating capacity and markets energy commodities, and transmits and distributes electricity to approximately five million customers in 11 states.
