AfDB is lending EUR39.5m to the Kribi Power Project in the north of the coastal city of Kribi in the southern province of Cameroon.

The scope of work includes the construction and operation of a 216MW gas-fired power plant with a 100km 225kV transmission line to be connected to the country’s Southern Interconnected Grid.

The Kribi project will diversify Cameroon’s energy production sources through gas generation expansion while displacing inefficient thermal power plants thereby reducing environmental impact including carbon emissions.

The other financial institutions include the International Finance Corporation, the Netherlands Development Finance Company, the Development Bank of Central Africa, Proparco, and a syndication of local banks led by Standard Chartered Bank.

Kribi Power Development Company is a subsidiary of the AES Corporation, an American global power company.
