Rehabilitation work is to begin this year on the bottom outlets of the dam, and the project has been launched to prevent collapse in heavy rain and also improve agricultural output.

The ADF loan equates to just over 60% of the total project cost.

The rehabilitation project is scheduled to be completed by 2011, and key improvements are to include gradually increasing the operational efficiency of the dam from 1600Mm3 to the full capacity of 2884Mm3 with commensurate improvements in the extent of land irrigated.
