The proposed plant will be constructed on land owned by Alarko subsidiary, Alarko Energy Generation, at Karabiga on the southern shore of the Sea of Marmara.

The plant will burn imported hard coal and produce 9.9 TWh a year, reported Platts.

Alarko, through another subsidiary Altek-Alarko, already operates a 164MW gas fired plant at Kirklareli in Turkey’s European province of Thrace.

The company is developing the 87MW Karakuz hydro plant in southern Turkey.

Alarko also owns Meral EDAS the regional distribution company for Turkey’s Konya region.

Cengiz Holding owns and operates a 132MW combined cycle gas turn plant at Samsun in northern Turkey, the 540MW Oymapinar hydro plant and is developing two more hydro plant of 320MW and 300MW.
