In the pilot, Alcatel-Lucent will start providing its smart metering solution for up to 550 homes. The smart metering solution provided by Alcatel-Lucent, together with the components supplied by its partners, offer an end-to-end system to record energy consumption in an automated and accurate way.
The service spectrum of the solution ranges from the supply of the meter data management solution (MDM) through a software-based prepayment functionality to an operational support system (OSS) for alarm management, inventory and ticketing.
Gerald Obernosterer, head of operational communication, KELAG Netz, said: “We have selected Alcatel-Lucent because of its advanced MDM and OSS solution. The combination of the meter data management system with an operational support system provided by the Alcatel-Lucent solution is an important cornerstone of a professional smart metering architecture.”
Thierry Pollet, head of the smart metering solutions at Alcatel-Lucent, said: “Smart metering touches the critical business processes of the utility.
“Meter data management must protect the legacy IT infra-structure, processing the incoming real-time metering data and adapting it to the requirements of the legacy IT infrastructure. MDM must protect the existing IT infrastructure while at the same time allowing a gradual transformation of the utility business processes to smart grid.”
