On April 29, Allegheny filed for an increase of $19.4m for the 12-month period ending June 30, 2010. The commission subsequently granted Allegheny an interim rate increase of the same amount.

Under the terms of a settlement filed on October 9, the company has agreed to reduce the increase by $3.2m. The settlement requires approval of the commission to be effective. If approved, the current bill for a residential customer in Virginia using 1,000 kilowatt-hours will decrease from approximately $96 to $94 a month.

Allegheny provides approximately 102,000 customers in Virginia with 3 million megawatt-hours of power per year.

Headquartered in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, Allegheny owns and operates generating facilities and delivers electric service to approximately 1.6 million customers in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland and Virginia.
