The wind farm will be built and owned by Alliant Energy in Poweshiek County in central Iowa, about 97km east of Des Moines.
According to Tradewind Energy, English Farms Wind Farm represents an infrastructure investment of about $250m.
Construction activities on the wind farm are expected to start in 2018.
The English Farms Wind Farm will feature 69 turbines manufactured by GE having a capacity in the range of 2.3-2.5MW. It will be linked to the Parnell-Poweshiek 161kV transmission line.
At its peak, the wind farm will generate enough power that will be sufficient to cover around 50,000 homes a year. At the same time, the new Iowa wind farm is expected to offset nearly 430,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions an year.
Alliant Energy stated that the English Farms Wind Farm is one of the many wind farms it is building to provide cost-competitive, clean energy to customers.
Alliant Energy's Iowa energy company president Doug Kopp said: “The benefits of this project help customers through reductions in emissions and fuel cost.
“It gives landowners lease payments to help on the farm and it helps communities through increased local tax revenue for schools and community services.”
The English Farms Wind Farm is expected to bring around $47m in local tax benefits in the next 30 years. It will also generate around $12m in the form of landowner payments in the next 30 years with over 100 landowners and more than 15,000 acres involved in the project.
