The project, which will involve the replacement of the current lighting fixtures at the airport’s parking garage and deck and at the passenger drop-off and pick-up areas with the new LED units, is expected to help the authority save at least $158,000 in energy costs every year.

ALSI will use Cree’s LED components to manufacture the fixtures for illuminating the Pittsburgh International Airport. The Airport Authority has made use of the grant from PA Conservation Works and Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority to fund this project.

Dan Onorato, executive of Allegheny County, said: “The green lighting project at Pittsburgh International Airport is a win-win situation because it will increase energy efficiency and decrease operating costs for the Airport Authority.

“The LED units will also be manufactured right here in Southwestern Pennsylvania, creating jobs and helping to solidify our standing as a leader in green technology and environmental stewardship.”
