The South West Link project will connect Barkeryd in central Sweden to Hurva in southern Sweden by using Alstom’s HVDC technology.

The 205 tonnes transformer was built by Alstom in collaboration with the VSC technology, which will be used in the converter stations.

While the transformer was built at Alstom’s transformer manufacturing unit in Stafford, the VSC kit was produced at the MaxSine Centre in the town.

In addition to transformers, Alstom will also supply HVDC converter stations at both ends of the power line, and control and protection, converter transformers, switchyard equipment, construction and project management services.

The South-West Link project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2014.
