The JV will establish the service centre in Jigmeling, Gelephu under Sarpang Dzongkhag district to provide repair services for hydro runners and other underwater parts of hydropower plants and also to support investment and employment in the Bhutanese Hydro market.

Alstom India Thermal and Renewable Power vice president Francois Carpentier said the new Service Centre is a key element in the company’s growth plans in the region and demonstrates its commitment to serve Bhutan Hydro market and its customers in the region.

"This joint undertaking to build a high-tech Service Centre is a result of the close relationship we have with Druk Green and of our desire to work with local partners to develop highly-skilled local capabilities," Carpentier added.

The construction of the service centre is expected to be completed within 27 months from the signing of the agreement.

Alstom will have 49% of shareholding in the JV where as Druk Green will have 51%.
