The Waigaoqiao power plant phase II features two 900MW Alstom boilers and the company is responsible for the engineering of the boilers for phase III.

The aim of the study is to locate the turbine as close as possible to the final superheater and hot reheater outlet headers.

Alstom Power Systems Boiler vice president Frédéric Pierucci said, "The contract is a continuation of the long-lasting relationship between Alstom and Waigaoqiao Power Plant in China and further demonstrates Alstom´s leadership in ultra-supercritical boiler technology."

The results of the study are also expected to be beneficial for the 700° C ultra-supercritical technology.

The study will help optimise the double reheat steam cycle to reach highest degrees of efficiency for power plants and also investigate the optimum routing of the cost-intensive superheat and reheat steam connection pipes to and from the turbine.

The study is expected to be completed by the end of August 2012.
