The Canoas factory will now be able to design, manufacture and test alternating current and high voltage direct current (HVDC) transformers up to 800kV.
The company said first tests will support the production of converter transformers for the Rio Madeira HVDC transmission line project in Brazil.
Alstom Grid Latin America region vice president Sergio Gomes said the company reinforces its expectation of growth in Brazil at this moment in which power industry receives most investments in the context of infrastructure projects.
"Our next steps include increasing the use of smart grid and energy efficiency solutions," Gomes said.
