The company will supply two greenfield air-insulated switchgear (AIS) substations, and it will also be responsible for the extension and refurbishment of nine existing AIS substations.
The nine substations, with voltage levels ranging from 66kV to 230kV, are located between Addis Ababa and the South-Sudanese border.
In all, the project will allow the transmission network to handle greater electrical loads, including the integration of renewable energy sources, Alstom said.
The ETSIP project, backed by the African Development Bank, is part of a national plan to strengthen Ethiopia’s growing transmission network.
