The scope of the contract includes design, manufacturing and delivery of two sets of 77 MW Turbine & Generator besides the supervision of their erection at the 154MW Dong Nai 5 hydropower project in Vietnam.

Alstom and Hydrochina will also undertake supply of mechanical and electrical auxiliaries for the project.

Alstom Renewable Power president Jerome Pecresse remarked that the contract underlines the company’s leadership in the Vietnamese hydropower sector.

Manufactured at Alstom’s hydropower industrial facility in Tianjin, China the equipment is expected to begin commercial operations in August 2015.

The company will receive a €10m share from the total contract value of €20m.

Vinacomin had invested a total of €227m in the Dong Nai 5 hydropower project, which is a part of the government’s Power Development Master Plan VII.

Located on the Dong Nai River, the project is estimated to generate and supply 616GWh of electricity to the national grid each year.
