As per the terms of the deal, Alstom will supply 2.7MW to 3MW turbines to Renova’s wind farms in Baina, a northeastern state in Brazil. These turbines will represent a minimum of 1.2GW of wind power generation capacity.
Delivery will begin by 2015 and will be completed in three to four years. Alstom will deliver ECO 100 3 MW onshore turbines at Renova’s wind farms.
Renova selected ECO 100 3 MW turbines range as it has proven to be a successful machine, offering high yield and efficiency across all wind classes.
The turbines have rotor diameter from 100 metres to 122 metres, which allows developers to opt the best rotor for every position.
Alstom claimed that the combination of two to three models of the range in one wind farm – ECO 100, 110 or 122 – will help in optimising the capacity of a project whilst reducing the cost.
Renova Energia CEO Mathias Becker said that the company opted Alstom for the supply of wind power turbines as it presented the best combination of price and technical performance, which would enable greater competitiveness in the projects.
"This will allow for increased efficiency of our plants, as we will have a more adequate technology to our winds, and reduced investments, which are key for us to maintain our leadership position in the increasingly competitive wind market," he adds.
Alstom will manufacture the turbines at its facility in Camaçari, Bahia. Opened in November 2011, the facility has annual production capacity of 300MW, with one work shift.
Following the agreement with Renova Energia, Alstom has decided to work with two shifts from the first half of 2013 in order to increase the annual production capacity to 600MW.
