Under the agreement that follows the memorandum of understanding signed in 2011, the joint venture firm will be owned 51% by Alstom Grid and 49% by Soyuz Holding.

The deal includes the continued manufacture of 110-220kV circuit breakers and an extension of the range up to 500kV.

The JV will also introduce a wider range of products, including disconnectors and gas insulated substations.

The equipment will be produced at Soyuz’s "High Voltage Switchgear Factory" at Mozhaisk, near Moscow.

Alstom said the products will upgrade Russia’s electricity transmission and distribution system, spanning over 2.1 million kilometres across the country.

In 2012, the total volume of electricity transmitted by the network, including the lines from 0.4kV to 750kV, was over one trillion kW/h.

Alstom Grid Central and Eastern Europe, Russia vice president Gerhard Seyrling said, "Alstom Grid has been committed to the Russian market for many years and makes technology transfers by bringing Alstom’s best-in-class expertise to modernise Russia’s electricity grid."
