Harjavalta hydro power plant

The contract with Länsi-Suomen Voima covers the retrofitting and upgrading of two existing generators and provision of one new generator.

Alstom will supply new complete stator, excitation system and cooling system and upgrade the current rotor, generator shaft as well as provide new or refurbish the existing bearings.

The company will refurbish the two original generators 46MVA each to 53MVA and supply a new 25MV generator that will be manufactured at its Bilbao site in Spain.

The works, which are due to be carried out between 2016 and 2017, are part of a larger modernisation project that intends to increase the output at the plant to 110MW.

Alstom president in Finland Markus Alholm said, "With this project we will significally increase the output of Harjavalta power plant thus allowing Länsi-Suomen Voima Oy to provide a reliable and renewable power to Southern Finland."

Länsi-Suomen Voima Oy managing director Olli Nummelin said, "The refurbishment and new machine will allow us to increase the production capacity of the plant and improve the efficiency and environmental safety of the plant."
